Our History


Earl B. Finning’s motto of “We Service what we Sell” went a long way to develop the business as we see it today. The word “Service” meant the mechanics needed to know how to repair the equipment and get it back running for the customer, no matter where the equipment was located. From a very early stage, training was one of the core values that made Finning Tractor and Equipment Ltd. a company that customers could count on.

A commitment to training has set Finning technicians apart as the best in the industry, a tradition that started during the Second World War when two army officers made an appointment with Earl Finning. They wanted Finning Tractor to organize a training program for operator mechanics in the armed services. Earl’s answer was yes, and for its contribution to the war effort, the company received the Canadian Armed Forces Award, the highest recognition that can be given to a civilian organization.

As our main supplier of equipment, Caterpillar has been a great partner in Finning’s success. The quality and support of the equipment has been unrivalled. Caterpillar believes in supporting a strong dealership network to market and support their different models of equipment.

This commitment to ‘service what we sell’ still stands today, as we continue to offer quality high-standard technical training.
