This course is designed to provide the participant with the basics of electricity to support safe work in Power Generating equipment repairs. The training provided here will ensure that workers repairing generating equipment will be able to safely perform their tasks relating to working in or near operating generating equipment.


Students should have basic computer skills and provide their own safety glasses, steel toed footwear, hard hats and fire retardant coveralls with reflective stripe.


  • Understand and identify the various safety hazards and labels found on the packages.
  • Know the different preventive maintenance service intervals and applicable requirements.
  • Review and identify the main service and inspection areas.
  • Review the major components of the generator and how each operates.
  • Explain the operation of the gen set voltage regulator.
  • Explain the functions and the operation of the gen set controller and how to navigate through the applicable menus.
  • Perform a practical inspection and operation on a generator set to review maintenance procedures. This is only applicable if on site equipment is available for training purposes.
