COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course covers mechanical service procedures unique to the G3600 gas engine. Special tooling, which includes the hydraulic tensioning equipment, is used to disassemble, assemble and adjust various components. The service procedures in this course apply to only the G3600 gas engines.

PPE Required

Participants must provide their own safety glasses, steel toed footwear, gloves, hard hats and fire retardant coveralls with reflective stripe.

Successful completion of a written examination with a passing grade of 80%.

PREREQUISITES

It would be beneficial for participants to have a fundamental working knowledge of either diesel or gasoline powered engines.

It is highly recommended for participants to have an active CWS Login for access to Caterpillar secure websites.

Finning training department will supply a laptop for participants to use while in the training course.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the basic operating principles of the G3600 engine mechanical systems.
  • Remove and install a camshaft segment and time the camshaft to the crankshaft.
  • Remove and install a cylinder head.
  • Remove and install a piston, connecting rod and cylinder liner.
  • Remove and install a main bearing.
  • Adjust engine valve bridges, engine valves and gas admission valves.
  • Understand adjustments to the fuel control valve, waste gate and choke valve linkages.
  • Explain the internal and external flow of engine coolant and lube oil and explain temperature control of each system.
