COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course covers the operation and service procedures unique to the G3600 engine. Special tooling, which includes hydraulic tensioning equipment, will be used to disassemble, assemble, and adjust various engine components. This course will be taught on a complete non-running G3600 Engine. This is a Caterpillar certified course.

PREREQUISITES

HET, AG or Automotive Journeyperson

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course the participant will be able to:

  • Understand the basic operating principles of the G3600 engine mechanical systems.
  • Understand the need for quality filtration of fuel, air and oil.
  • Remove and install a cylinder head.
  • Remove and install a piston, connecting rod and cylinder liner.
  • Remove and install a main bearing.
  • Remove and install a camshaft segment and time the camshaft to the crankshaft.
  • Adjust engine valve bridges, engine valves and gas emission valves.
  • Make adjustments to the fuel control valve, waste gate and choke valve linkages.
  • Inspect a turbocharger and rotate the housings for installation on a Vee engine.
  • Explain the internal and external flow of engine coolant and lube oil and explain temperature control of each system.
  • Successfully complete a written exam with a passing grade of 80%.
