COURSE DESCRIPTION

The MWL course pertains to the CAT 950M, 962M, 966M, 972M, 980M, and 982M. The course will discuss the C7.1, C9.3, C13, and C15 diesel engines and their emission systems. Also to be discussed will be the Hydraulic, steering, braking, powertrain, demand fan, electrical control, and new loader features.

Students must bring their own safety glasses, steel toed boots, gloves, hard hat and coveralls with hi-visibility markings.

Please note, this course does NOT cover the 24M Series of Motor Grader - there is a separate course for that machine.

PREREQUISITES

ILT: CLC/SIS/ET, S1 Hydraulics, S2 Engines, S3 Powertrain, S4 Electrical, MEC.DPC: 950M / 962M / 966M / 972M / 980M / 982M Wheel Loader NPI Service Training – 40667

COURSE OBJECTIVES

After completion of the course, the participant will be able to:

  • Locate and identify all the major MWL machine components
  • Locate and identify all filters, dipsticks, indicators, fill tubes, drains, and test points.
  • Locate and identify the major components and explain operation of the C7.1, C9.3, C13 and C15 engines
  • Trace the flow of fuel, oil, air, and coolant throughout the engine
  • Trace the flow of oil throughout all hydraulic components and explain operation.
  • Understand and be able to test the hydraulic system as how each component corresponds with the entire system.
  • Explain operation of Torque convertor and powertrain transmission
  • Perform testing and adjusting on the powertrain
  • Perform testing and adjusting on the braking, and steering system
  • Locate all controls in the new operator’s station, explain the operation of the new tractor features, and understand the correlation between different ECMs on the machine.

Successful completion of a written examination with a passing grade of 80%.
